-서론-
학교보건은 대상자가 성장발달기에 있는 아동, 청소년들이어서 상당히 중요한 보건문제를
가지고 있을 뿐만 아니라, 학교가 지역사회의 중심체이며, 학교인구가 전체인구의 약 24%를
차지하는 다수이고, 학교와 학생이 보건사업을 행하기에 상당히 유리한 조건에 있다는 점
등에서 상당히 중요한 위치를 차지한다. 많은 학자들이 잘 조화된 학교 건강증진사업은 우
리 사회의 어떤 집단을 대상으로 하는 보건사업보다 높은 비용-효과를 볼 수 있는 사업으
로 믿는다. 학교보건이란 학교보건 대상자인 학생과 교직원이 건강하고 안전하게 생활할 수
있도록 그들의 질병을 관리하고 질병으로부터 예방하고 건강을 보호, 유지, 증진함을 목적으
로 한다.
이에 따라 학교보건의 목적은 학생과 교직원이 스스로 그들의 건강을 관리하고 질병을 예
방 및 건강 보호, 유지, 증진할 수 있는 능력을 갖추도록 하는 데 있다. 즉, 학교보건 사업은
질병의 예방 및 건강의 유지증진 등 예방보건서비스에 초점이 맞춰져야 한다

This study was conducted to investigate subjective physical symptoms of elementary,
middle, and high school students in Gumi city. The study subjects were 22,771 students
in 9 elementary, 6 middle and 6 high schools in Gumi city that entrust the care of
students as a school doctor to our medical team. The data was collected by
questionnaire including 40 subjective symptoms from April to May 1997. In the case of
elementary school students the questionnaire was filled out by their parents. On the
other hand, middle and high school students checked their subjective symptoms by
themselves. The response rate of questionnaires was 76.3% in elementary school
students, while 96.0% and 91.7% in the middle and high school students. We classified
high school into two groups, general high school and vocational high school.
Most common five symptoms among 40 subjective symptoms were nasal stuffiness,
hearing impairment, itching, headache and enuresis in elementary school students.
Hearing impairment, headache, back pain, tinnitus and dizziness were most common five
symptoms among middle school students, and in the case of high school students, back
pain, epigastric discomfort, headache and ocular pain were most common.
Among high school boys, students in general school are more obese compared to
vocational school students(p<0.05). But, there was no significant difference in high
school girls. Five symptoms which are known to be occurred by psychologjc stress such
as headache, ocular pain, epigastric discomfort, diarrhea or constipation of long duration
and frequent abdominal pain, were more frequent in high school girls than boys(p<0.05).
Both male and female, ocular pain, epigastric discomfort and diarrhea or constipation
were more frequent in general high school students than vocational, but headache was
more frequent among vocational high school students in girls only(p<0.05) 29.1% of the
high school students have back pain.
There was no difference between general and vocational high school boys in proportion of persons who complain back pain but back pain is more frequent in general high school girls than that in vocational(p<0.05). In conclusion, obesity is more common health problem in general high school boys, and back pain is more frequent in general high school girls. According to the grade and characteristics of subjects, adequate prevention method and specific health promotion program is needed.
